SCURRY AROUND CRAMOND
By Caroline Catto
This was a great wee race which was different to anything I had done before. What other race has a route that takes you a mile out to sea with fantastic views across the River Forth?
Given that it was a club champs race we had a fantastic turn out of WERC runners - almost 20 bodies in pink. As always it was lovely to see so many friendly faces before and after along with a few more from the club who came out to cheer us on.
The race took place on 23 May starting at 6.40pm. It starts from Cramond promenade (start and finish are next to the Boardwalk cafe) and takes you along this, up onto a hill and trail on the left, back down along the causeway out to sea to Cramond Island, up the hill on the Island to the top and then circled round to take the same route back. The pre-race briefing said to expect all terrains - and yip that was right - tarmac, grass, sand and mud - you name it. Given the terrain and elevation it is quite a tough wee race - expect no 5 mile PBs here - but entirely suitable for all abilities.
Scurry, the organisers, did it well with even a piper at the top of Cramond Island to spur us on. Definitely recommend this one for next year.
Two brilliant podium places for Clare J (first female) and Anna C (third female).
Alan just missing the podium by taking the 4th spot.
Well done!
