SANDHEAD 10

By Linda Howie and Alasdair MacDonald

This race is a relatively small one with only 70 participants.  Starting at the Sandhead village the route takes in the beautiful sandy beach. High tide was at 10.22 today and the race started at 10.30!  A small burn runs across the beach. There is an option to use the bridge but most runners just jumped the burn. A few wet feet here… the route leaves the beach via a small climb up the dunes before meandering towards Stranraer via small country roads, fields, woodland trails and finally along the coastal road into Stranraer with fantastic views of Loch Ryan. The finish line is at the end of the pier. A very well run and friendly event which included 2 watering stations, with the bonus of the Stranraer Oyster Festival for nourishment and beer! Excellent goodie bag too.
